Team History
 | The Southern Maryland Search and Rescue Dogs, Inc. (SMSARD) was formed in July, 1992. Our purpose as a non-profit organization is to provide volunteer search and rescue using canines and emergency medical care as indicated. |
 | On January 1, 1993, SMSARD went in-service with the St. Mary's County Emergency Operations Center, located in Leonardtown, Maryland. |
 | January 16, 1993, we were activated for our first search - to locate an 8-year old boy that was missing from his home near Lexington Park, Maryland. | |
 | November 1995, we assisted the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office and the Naval Investigative Service in locating the body of a murder victim at the St. Mary's County Landfill. | |
 | As of Today, SMSARD has participated in over 50 searches in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC., with the majority being in St. Mary's and Calvert Counties. Two searches have been criminal in nature. | |
 | As of 5/18/99, SMSARD is a 501(c)3 organization! Many, many, many thanks to our illustrious director, Scott, for his painstaking efforts and many hours spent in Baltimore to get this project completed. We have been working on our 501(c)3 status for some time, now, and Scott finally dotted all the i's and crossed all the t's. Again, many thanks from all of us!!!! | |
