Search Dogs
A variety of dog breeds are used for Search and Rescue, but the working and herding breeds are preferred. All of our dogs are trained using the Reward System with the ability to work up to 8 hours in the field, depending on the weather.
We only use "people oriented", NON-AGGRESSIVE dogs. The younger the dog, the better the training, but an older dog will do fine depending on its personality.
We have the following breeds of dogs as operational or soon to be operational:
- German Shepherd Dog
- Belgian Malinois
- Chesapeake Bay Retreiver
- German Rottweiller
If you own a German Shepherd and live in Charles County, please contact the Search and Rescue Dogs of Maryland for information on joining their organization. They are based out of Charles County and would be a better suited organization for you and your canine. If you live in St. Mary's or Calvert counties, please contact us for more information.
