ConstitutionArticle I - Name and PurposeSection A: The name of this organization shall be the Southern Maryland Search and Rescue Dogs, Inc.; herein called SMSARD. Section B: The purpose of SMSARD as a non-profit organization is to provide volunteer search and rescue using canines and emergency medical care as indicated. Article II - MembershipSection A - Qualifications: Active duty members of SMSARD shall be at least 16 years of age. Section B - Non-Discrimination: Discrimination based on race, color, creed, sex, age, national origin, marital status, political or religious opinion or affiliation, and physical or mental handicap (except in such cases where the disability or condition would preclude the individual from adequately performing the tasks involved) is prohibited by the Constitution and By-Laws of SMSARD. Section C - Charter Membership: Members joining prior to December 31, 1992 shall be considered Charter Members of SMSARD. Article III - Meetings and ElectionsSection A - Meetings: SMSARD shall meet for at least one regular business meeting a month. One half of the active members will constitute a quorum. Section B - Elections: Nominations and elections will be held in October of each year at the regular business meeting. Elections shall be made by secret ballot. A majority of those present and eligible to vote, and voting shall constitute an election to office. Article IV - AmendmentsSection A: Amendments to this constitution shall be in writing at a regular business meeting. The proposed amendment(s) shall be read, received, and tabled until the next regular business meeting and a three-fourths majority vote of those members present, eligible to vote shall be necessary to amend the Constitution. |
